Wilma Francis Burge Purvis, 93, widow of James Carlos Purvis, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Mrs. Purvis was born in Frankfort, Kentucky to the late Stanley and Jesse Brown Burge. She graduated with honors in 1947 from Kavanaugh High School; she was one of the first founding members of Anderson Christian Church; former member of Corinth Christian Church; retired from Kroger where she worked in the bakery; and was a former manager of the cafeteria at Alton Elementary School where she volunteered with PTA, talent shows, and was the 4-H secretary. Wilma's favorite things included birds, flowers, babies, cooking, baking, UK basketball, and most of all her family and God.
Wilma is survived by three daughters, Jenny Lynn (Frank) Anderson, Owenton, Linda Cummins, Lawrenceburg, and Holly Dee (Barry) Sparrow, Frankfort; grandchildren, Chris Purvis, Lawrenceburg, Lesha (Josh) Moore and Michelle (Ryan) McGarry, both of Shelbyville, and Joshua (Candace) Satterly, Frankfort; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Purvis, Christina Purvis, and Liam McGarry; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe Barnes and Emma Purvis; nieces and nephews, Clay and Marshall Gibbons, Elizabeth Nickels, all of Louisville.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Powell Purvis; grandson, Stephen C. Purvis; and son-in-law, Robert Cummins.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Dan Lillpop officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Clay Gibbons, Marshall Gibbons, Chris Purvis, Josh Moore, Ryan McGarry, Dale Montgomery, Ted Montgomery, and Ben Purvis. Honorary bearers are Barry Sparrow, Joshua Satterly, and Frank Anderson.
