William J. Ellis, Sr. "Bill" died peacefully on September 7, 2024 in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 71 .Bill is survived by his children, Doug (Trisha) Glendenning, Leslie Darland (Chad Wade), Billy (Abby) Ellis, and Diana Clark; grandchildren, Logan Darland (Ivy Wolfe), Morgan (Hunter) Armendt, Felicity Clark, Clair Ellis and Jane Clark; great-grandchildren Brayden, Landen and Brysen Armendt and Caspian Clark; and friend and former spouse, Lois Ellis. He is also survived by siblings, Ron Ellis, Patty (Terry) Belton, and Ken Ellis, and by numerous nephews and nieces. Bill was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ellis; his parents, Norm and Betty Ellis; three brothers, Bob, Bud and Jim Ellis; and a nephew, Scott Ellis. Bill was born on August 23, 1953 in Detroit and grew up in Warren and Utica, Michigan.
He attended Utica High School, then joined the Marines. He served his country for four years, which included a tour in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged with a rank of Sergeant. Afterwards, he became a finish carpenter and cabinet maker which led to him build a home for his family in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Bill's hobbies included motorcycle riding, boating, reading and watching westerns on TV. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Bill wished for all to know that he loved his family and his country.
A memorial honoring Bill will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Bill would have liked donations to be sent to either the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org or the American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.orgThe family would expressly like to thank the staff and caregivers at the Community Living Center, Lexington VA Medical Center, Sousley Campus as well as the caregivers at the Lexington VA Hospital on Cooper Drive for their kindness and exceptional care. Noon and Son Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with final care.
