Rebecca Gordon Johnson Gray, 97, died Sunday, September 18, 2016. She was born to the late Benjamin and Susie Johnson on December 23, 1918 of Lawrenceburg, KY. Married to the late John Paul Gray and had one son, John Paul Gray, II. Her son has been absent from her life for quite some time and his whereabouts are unknown.
She was the youngest of 12 children and is the last of her generation in her community. She joined Evergreen Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until her illness in 2009. As a member, she held various positions and was noted as a very outspoken person. She was employed by State of KY and retired after many years of faithful service from Frankfort State Hospital & School. She was an active member of Senior Citizens. Rebecca had the gift of poetry and she wrote about everything. One of her poems has been printed in the National Library of Poetry and was awarded a certificate of appreciation. She was asked by many to write poetry for their events and she done so willingly and happily. A book of her poems will be in circulation by October of this year.
She was loved by her family, friends, and community. A real "cutup", loved to joke and laugh about the simple things. Her favorite word was "dontnee", don't know if it was a dictionary word but she used it as if it were, which to her meant "cute/handsome". All the babies and all the animals were "dontnee" to her.
She leaves to mourn nieces, Wanda Brown (Gary), Versailles, KY; Jewell Brown (Freddie), Harrodsburg, KY; Doris Johnson, Versailles, KY; Linda Hudson, Dayton, OH; Linda Rucker Hudson, Sophia Rucker, Tiffany Hudson Sutton (Ricky), all of Lawrenceburg; Renita Jo (Jody) Hudson of Las Vegas, NV, Tabitha Pickens of Cincinnati, OH; nephews, Sherman Johnson (Donna), Willingboro, NJ; Kurk Johnson (Tomi) of Marietta, GA; Vaughn Johnson (Vanessa), Winchester, KY; Rudy Johnson (Jenny), John Rucker (Montie) of Lawrenceburg, KY; Craig Hudson, Lexington, KY; one sister-in-law, Alice Johnson of Greenville, SC; and a host of great/great great nieces, great/great great nephews, relatives and friends. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
