Mary Bruner Gregory, 76, passed away on May 22, 2024, peacefully in her home. Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, Chester Bruner and Alice Click, and one sister, Tommie Wheeler. Mary was survived by her loving husband, Bill Gregory of Lawrenceburg, KY, her kids, Tim (Kristie) Napier of Louisville, KY, Angie (Brian) Kerrick of Lexington, KY, and Jennifer (Steve) Marshall, of Lexington, KY. Her siblings, Shelia (Tony) Ramos of Topeka, KS, and Gladys (Ronnie) Chasteen of Lexington, KY; her seven grandkids Luke Napier, Aaron Napier, Annie Napier, Tyler Kerrick, Audrey Marshall, Emily Marshall, and Ian Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was born on July 8, 1947. She and her twin sister spent the better part of their youth and young adult years wreaking havoc, as identical twins often do. From switching places to general chaos, the Bruner sisters always showed up to have fun. As Mary got older, she held a variety of jobs, but was always happiest when she was working closely with the public.
If you knew Mary, then you knew about her kids, and how proud she was of them. She loved to talk about all of their attempts and accomplishments in life, love, and work. As happy as she was with her kids, she treasured her grandkids, and was always the most satisfied when the kids and grandkids were all around the dinner table, enjoying her delicious cooking. The one thing she never did, though, was share a full recipe intact. She always left out a small but significant ingredient, if for no reason other than to eliminate her competition. Now most of those good foods are gone from us.
A few other things that were always important to Mary were a good sale and a more than necessary amount of bling. Mary was often spotted at local thrift stores and yard sales, scoping out any good deals. And to Mary, anything under $5.00 was a thing she had "been looking for forever" and was going home with her. If that thing just happened to be a little shiny, and have some bling to it, she hit the jackpot that day!
Mary always said she never wanted Bill to retire, because "they would drive each other crazy." However, he did eventually retire, and they did not go crazy, (or at least by our family standards). Instead, they spent many good days and nights together. Bill even learned how to cook, and treated Mary to many great meals and made sure to treat her like the queen she was. In the last few years, Bill had become Mary's primary caregiver. Though those were hard years, she spent them surrounded by loved ones, and occasionally reminded us just how lucky we were to have her. All people die, but not all people live. Mary lived her life in a way that allowed her to have fun each and every day. You will be missed, Mary!
