Jane Cole (Ransdell) Ross

Jane Cole Ransdell Ross, 84, of Lawrenceburg, KY passed from this life to eternal life on Monday, January 24, 2022 after having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May, 2021. She passed peacefully with her son Steve and daughter-in-law, Lynette by her side.

She was born in Salvisa, KY, April 23, 1937, the daughter of Fred Brown Ransdell and Mary Louise Cole Ransdell. She lived most of her life in Lawrenceburg, KY, graduating from Anderson High School in 1955. She graduated with an AB Degree in English from Eastern Kentucky University, "With High Distinction" in 1959. Later she earned her Master's Degree and Rank I Teaching Certificate from the University of Kentucky. At Eastern, she was a four-year member of the college choir; member of Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honorary); President of the Canterbury Club (for English majors); Secretary of Collegiate Pentacle (Senior Women's Honorary Society).

Jane was a life-long member of First Christian Church, Lawrenceburg, KY; pianist for approximately 10 years; choir member for over 65 years and accompanist for the Men's Chorus in the 1960s. She was a teacher at Anderson County High School for 27 years; Head of the English Department; Latin Teacher; Academic Team Coach; and directed several plays. In 1979, Jane was selected to receive the first annual "Superior Teacher Award."

She was a Charter member of the Anderson County Community Theater and appeared in or directed approximately 20 productions. Jane travelled extensively in the U.S. and approximately 30 countries in Europe and Asia.

Jane is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Roger Steven and Lynette Ross – Lawrenceburg, KY; grandsons Roger Samuel Ross – Nashville, TN; Zane Cole Ross – Newport, KY and Nicolas Bower Ross – Bellevue, KY; and cousins Robert Bond Cole, II – Salvisa, KY and Julie Cole Wilson, Lexington, KY. She was predeceased by her son James Cole Ross.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2022  and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at First Christian Church with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at First Christian Church. Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

The family requests masks to be worn and social distancing to be implemented.
