Listen to Obituary

Dennis R. Loew, (DAVE) 78, of Patsey, Kentucky passed away peacefully at the home of Cheryl Harrod of Frankfort Kentucky on August 24th, 2025.

Dave was born Dennis R. Loew, the son of Allan and Mary Loew, on May 15, 1947, in Multnomah County, a suburb or Portland, Oregon where his father had taken a job as a communications engineer for the U.S. Forest Service following his service in the Navy during World War II.  He was the youngest of three children. The family moved to Washington, D. C. only a couple of years later so Dave grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland until high school when the family moved further out and he attended high school at Springbrook High in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Dave's parents built a summer cabin at Scientists Cliffs in Calvert County, Md where he spent his summers up through high school and college and where he developed many of the friendships that would last throughout his life.  Dave attended the University of Maryland for two years and then met his wife, Sydney Brookes, then began moving on to a life of sailing, carpentry, and farming.   They were married October 1976.  Following college, he spent several years sailing and delivering sail boats between the east coast and locations in the Caribbean. Dave enjoyed music and attended Woodstock in 1969.

He also purchased a farm in western Virgina where he lived for several years.

In the late 70s he moved to a farm in Patsey, Kentucky where he created the farm of his dreams and developed the many friendships that would last throughout his adult life. During this period, he worked as a master carpenter as he expanded his farm; first with a large workshop then building his dream house. Dave was passionate about sustainability and devised his own water and power system for his farm.

His poodles and the many friendships he found in the area were the center of his life and he cherished them for all his days.

Dave is survived by his brother, Gary Loew, Gary's wife Sandra, their children Christopher A. Loew (nephew), Anne L. Stoffel (niece) Sydney and Drew Stoffel (Anne's children). He is also survived by two nephews Greg Tacchetti and Dave Tacchetti.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Allan Loew, his mother, Mary Loew and sister Nancy Loew Tacchetti.
