Services for Charles E. Franklin, 82, of Frankfort, will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday at Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, KY by Pastor Steve Weaver with burial in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, December 12 at the funeral home.
He died Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Harold B. and Elsie Brown Franklin. He graduated from Anderson County High School and served in the United States Army. He was a retired farmer, homebuilder, and owner/operator of NAPA Auto Parts. He enjoyed harness racing and owned two race horses. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, especially to Myrtle Beach, SC, Gatlinburg, TN, and "Out West". He coached Little League baseball and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. He was a charter member of Farmdale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and choir member.
Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Aitken; three sons, Mike Franklin (Rhonda Barmore), Jeff Franklin (Lori), and Danny Franklin (Jennifer), all of Frankfort; eight grandchildren, Heather Davis, Helen Aitken, Sarah Aitken, Scott Aitken (Sharma), Erin Franklin, Annie Franklin, Nathan Swatzyna, Josh Caudle; eight great-grandchildren, Keenan Brown, Canton Jackson, Robert Aitken, Jaevyn Aitken, Shamari Aitken, Kenneth Aitken, Jr., Rylee Schaffner, and Sam Schaffner; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Elsie S. Franklin; brother, Otis Franklin; and sister, Ellen Stucker.
Pallbearers will be Robert Aitken, Scott Aitken, Scotty Bryan, Phil Franklin, Doug Kirk, Dusty Rhodes, Gary Sullivan, and Nathan Swatzyna.
The family would like to think numerous friends and neighbors, especially Scotty Bryan, Dusty Rhodes, Richard Craycraft, Debbie Wicker, Martha Baumgartner, Laura Gregory, and Tonya Roberts, for their kindness.
Flowers are welcome, or donations in his memory may be made to the America Diabetes Association, American Lung Association, or Farmdale Baptist Church, 5610 U.S. Highway 127, Frankfort, KY 40601.
