It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Candy Ann Perry, age 75, of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, who departed this world to be with her Heavenly Father on August 1, 2024. Her final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by her family.
Candy was born to the late Tommy Dwaine Brown and Belmonte Alvena Brown (Voirol) on April 14, 1949 in Fort Wayne, IN. As a teenager, she played the clarinet and violin. She graduated from Bourbonnais High School in 1967 and later moved to Kentucky.
In 1988, Candy married Timothy Ray Perry, moved to his home in Lawrenceburg, where together they loved and raised their blended family of five children. Over their 35 years of marriage, they shared a love for gardening, canning, cooking, boating, fishing, and walks in the park with their dog. Candy particularly cherished the holidays, especially Christmas, when she and Tim would bake cookies and enjoy time with all their loved ones.
Faith was a cornerstone of life for Candy and Tim. For more than a decade, they have been active members of the First Baptist Church where Candy served as a Sunday School teacher. Candy dedicated much of her life to teaching children, starting as a preschool teacher at Abundant Life Christian School. She went on to earn her Associates in Childhood Education from Bluegrass Community & Technical College (BCTC) in 2005. In total, she taught for twelve years, teaching preschool, kindergarten, and first grade students until retiring in 2012.
In retirement, Candy devoted much of her time to quilting, a hobby that has always brought her great joy. Learning from her grandmother, Candy was always an excellent seamstress able to sew just about anything. Alongside three other women from church, Candy formed a sisterhood dedicated to charitable sewing projects. For the past seven years, Candy and her mission quilting sisters, Mary Pat Young, Karen Hudnall, and Carolyn Benedict have gathered weekly to create quilts for children in need at the Sunrise Children's Home and Anderson County foster system. They have also crafted teddy bears for young ones in addition to sewing countless masks for Kentucky residents during the Pandemic.
Home was Candy's happy place. She loved being at home and was always grateful to Tim who afforded her the opportunity to spend her retirement years doing all the little things she enjoyed. She would often sip her morning tea or coffee on her back porch while listening to Christian music and reading her daily Bible study. In addition to reading, she also loved growing flowers, writing poetry, and was the happiest when surrounded by her family and her dog.
Candy will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Joe Artz (Nick Kouns) of Las Vegas, NV and Kevin Arzt (Canessa) of Lexington; daughters Diane Curtis (Chris) of Taylorsville, Becky Wood (Johnny) of Simpsonville, and Chrystal Perry of Willisburg; grandchildren Brittany Ellis (Nick Gramke) of Cincinnati, OH, Ty Ellis (Pari Patel) of Independence, Brittany Goodlett of Louisville, Ethan Arzt (Haley Bess) of Eminence, Isaac Curtis (Maribeth Combs) of Culpeper, VA, Avery Curtis of Taylorsville, Vanessa Morgan of Willisburg, and McKenzie Nelson of Willisburg, brother Tommy Brown, brothers-in-law Rick Perry and Gene Perry, and sister-in-law Angela Fields (Tony) all of Lawrenceburg.
First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg will be hosting a gathering of family and friends for Candy's Celebration of Life on August 25, 2024 at 2:00pm with Brother Bob Ehr officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Candy can be made to either Hospice or the youth at the First Baptist Church.
