Alvin Huston Perry, 97, of Wilmore, widower of Etna Oneita Moffett Perry, died Sunday, January 24, 2021 at VA Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born in Lawrenceburg, KY to the late Floyd Grandison Perry and Radie E. Searcy Perry. He was a member at Pigeon Fork Baptist Church; member at American Legion Post 34 and spent his days as a farmer. He was a US Army Veteran; Private 1st Class; 331st Infantry Regiment; 83rd Infantry Division; wounded, Prisoner of War; EAMET Ribbon; World War II Victory Medal; American Theatre Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; 2 Overseas Services Bars; Good Conduct Medal; received the highest French award, Knight of Legion of Honor and received a Purple Heart. He was also a member of VETS Charitable Corporation and received a Gold Star at Casson at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
He is survived by his nephews, Donnie (Barbara) Perry, Akron, OH; John (Carol) Moffett, Harrodsburg, Gene (Sue) Moffett, Exeter, RI and Terry (Carla) Cornish, Harrodsburg; nieces, Debbie Chamoun, Tennessee and Charisse (Michael) Weigner, Douglasville, GA; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Bumgardner, of Douglasville, GA.
Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Roby Perry.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Vernon Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Pigeon Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. prior to the service.
