Alice Elizabeth Polk Gill, 90, of Lawrenceburg, widow of Sidney Gill, died Monday, May 30, 2016 at Bluegrass Signature Health in Lexington.
She was born in Warren, OH to the late Van Buren and Ida Mae Turley Polk. She was a member of Craig Chapel AME Church in Salvisa where she served as a treasurer and secretary for several years; and was a social worker in Anderson County for 32 years for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Mrs. Gill is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jo Hayden, Louisville, Jane Wooldridge Jones, Nicholasville, and Dawna Desiree (Jerald) Alford, Lexington; two sons, Michael Stewart King, Nicholasville, and Douglas Clay King, Waterloo, IA; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and 6 sisters, Helen Smith, Janie Mae Polk, Altha Johnson, Ethel Thurman, Nellie (James) Harvey, all of Lawrenceburg, and Marguerite Ross, Louisville.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Wesley King; grandson, Andre Lamont McKee; three sisters, Edith Russell, Jennie McKee, and Mary Burks; and a brother, John D. Polk.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Craig Chapel AME Church with Minister Jerald Alford and Bro. Danny Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Gash Memorial Chapel.
Casketbearers will be Jobie Harvey, Dupree Gill, Steve James, Michael King, Jr., Bryan Harvey, and Rodney Gill. Honorary bearers will be Marvin Floyd and Craig Hudson.
